The Scoop on "Scoot" ...

"Scoot" started as a challenge of sorts. During Myrtle Beach Bike Week 2008 (the Spring Rally), some members of Carolina Faith Riders challenged Pastor Frank to do some biker cartoons, and maybe even, have a cartoon book ready for Myrtle Beach Bike Week 2009. The race was on!

Pastor Frank (pen name "Toonup" for this project) began working on the characters. The first character developed was "Scoot." The name Scoot was given to him by Bro Dwight Mobley, Southside Baptist CFR, in Florence. Scoot is not actually a person at all, but one of those "trunk dummies" that bikers tie to their backseats or luggage racks (we are talking about little stuffed animals, not people -- get your mind out of the mud puddles!!!) In order to fully get the humor in "Scoot" you have to understand this point -- he is not a live person, although he thinks he is.

Readers get life from Scoot's perspective. Because he is deceived, everything is just a little twisted with Scoot, but that's okay because that's where the humor comes from. Scoot does have an owner whose name is Hawk. We named him after one of the riders in our Biker Church, although the character Hawk in this comicstrip is nothing like the brother we all know and love. We just really liked that name here.

Anyway, below are some of the comicstrips from "Scoot" to date. As you look, remember that this is NOT a religious or church cartoon. It is something we are doing for the biker "people group" to reach them. We follow it up with the Gospel. But this is intended to be humor to appeal to the biker crowd (although we still keep it clean so that it glorifies God).
